Max Verstappen's father, Jos Verstappen, has once again lashed out at Red Bull as key members continue to leave the team. In a recent development, one of the key personnel from the team left the squad and joined McLaren. This was not the first exit from a squad that looks to be facing an issue of resource drain at the moment.
Jos Verstappen has made his feelings public about Red Bull Christian Horner from the start of the season, as he was one of the frontrunners who wanted the team principal gone. A question on the recent departures was put to Max Verstappen's father and he criticized the team again.
Jos Verstappen said (via Motorsport.com),
"This is what I warned about. The team then says: 'Oh, it doesn't matter, we have someone else.' But it's too many people now."
He added,
"Max gets questions about it every time and so on. So yeah, I think it's just not good, what's happening at the moment."
Speaking about Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, Jos Verstappen added,
"He [Horner] always glosses over it"
Quite a few key members have left the Austrian team this season. One of the first was ace designer Adrian Newey, who announced an abrupt exit from the team and will be a part of Aston Martin next season.
Another move that came as a surprise was Jonathan Wheatley announcing his departure from the team to join Audi next season.
Max Verstappen's father takes aim at FIA
Max Verstappen was embroiled in a controversy in Singapore. The driver was sanctioned by the FIA for using inappropriate language in a press conference prior to the Singapore GP.
In what has been a recently stringently applied regulation, drivers cannot use abusive language in press conferences or on the team radio. Max Verstappen was given community service after being determined to have contravened regulations by the governing body.
Talking to the media about the sanction, Jos Verstappen said,
“I think that is the most ridiculous thing. But we also see it in rally. I don't think the FIA is doing a very good job. But I won't say too much about this!”
World Rally Championship driver Sébastien Ogier was handed a suspended €30,000 fine for comments regarding officials at the Acropolis Rally in Greece earlier this month.
Jos Verstappen has been quite vocal when it comes to Max and his title battle this season, and has been critical of the team boss. The dynamic between him and Horner will be intriguing to observe, especially since Max Verstappen is spending at least another year at Red Bull.
