Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has been a dominant force in the sport ever since the beginning of the new arrow regulations in 2022. The Dutch driver has been rewriting history books ever since he became world champion for the first time in 2021 after a legendary tussle against Lewis Hamilton.
The Dutch driver's talent was evident from the early days when he made his debut for Red Bull junior team Toro Rosso in 2015 and was quickly promoted to the senior team in Spain in 2016 replacing Danill Kvyat. He won his first race with the team and hasn't looked back since, adding another 60 wins to his name.
But the measure of his consistency could be seen in the stat which pointed out that since joining Red Bull, Verstappen has finished outside the points position in just one race. Max Verstappen finished P11 at the 2016 Belgian GP after starting from the front row and indulging in skirmishes with then-Ferrari driver, Kimi Raikkonen.
Verstappen's consistency is proving to be the differentiating factor in Red Bull's 2024 title challenge against the likes of Ferrari, Mercedes, and McLaren while his teammate Sergio Perez lags. Speaking at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Max Verstappen spoke about the battle this year and said (via F1.com):
“We had some great years. Of course, this year also started off really competitively, and now everyone’s catching up a bit. Every race is a proper battle as well, so it’s great."
"I think that [theme] will continue also for the rest of the season, so it’s really unknown what is going to happen, and that’s great for the sport," Verstappen added.
Max Verstappen previews the Hungarian GP this weekend
Max Verstappen said that the Hungaroring was an 'interesting' track and he was excited to race there this weekend. The Dutch driver will be looking to make a hattrick of wins at the 2024 Hungarian GP, having previously won in 2022 and 2023.
As per "PitPass", the Red Bull driver said:
"Hungary is an interesting track and we are looking forward to racing there this week. The circuit is very narrow and twisty and has a very technical second sector; it will also be quite a bit warmer this week too. I have been back at the factory with the Team on the sim preparing for the upcoming race, which has been good."
Highlighting his and the team's brilliant record at the track, Verstappen expressed confidence ahead of the race and said,
"Finally, we had a brilliant race in Hungary last year and have good memories here as we achieved 12 wins in a row. Hopefully, we can have a great race again this year and achieve another good Team result," he added.
Max Verstappen leads the driver's championship by 84 points from Lando Norris after 12 races and three Sprints in the 2024 season.
