Red Bull Racing's aero wizard Adrian Newey is set to join Aston Martin in 2025. On the High-Performance podcast with Jake Humphrey and Damian Hughes, the British engineer spoke about how the British media has demonized Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel.

Newey entered the world of Formula 1 in 1986. Since then, the designer and race engineer has been a crucial part of teams such as Williams, McLaren and Red Bull Racing. He has been responsible for creating title-winning cars for each team (1993, 1994, 1996, 1997 for Williams, 1998 for McLaren, and 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2022, and 2023 for Red Bull Racing).

Ahead of his departure from the reigning constructor champion, Newey recalled a few fond memories with Red Bull. As per the aforementioned source, he also shared his opinion on the demonization of Vettel and Verstappen.

"He's (Verstappen) incredibly mature and rounded and philosophical. I think from the outside I'm not sure people fully appreciate and understand Max just like they didn't with Sebastian. First of all, there's this sort of demonization both of them suffered at times. which I think is very unfair. And maybe that's also a little bit of the British media. This Sky (Sports) have a huge influence around the world. Their viewing figures, although their viewing is truly International but their coverage is quite nationalistic, that I say," Newey said.

This has resulted in bias against drivers from other nationalities, especially if they are winning championships.

Adrian Newey shares why he chose Aston Martin over Ferrari

In the past few months, Ferrari and Aston Martin were in contention for grabbing Red Bull Racing's chief designer Adrian Newey. After several discussions with both teams, the Legendary British engineer chose the latter.

During the media announcement, Newey revealed why he chose the Silverstone-based outfit over the iconic Italian marque.

“Lawrence and I have known each other off and on over the years, and we often bump into each other in the gym, particularly at the Middle East and Far East races. As I’ve announced to everybody that I will be departing the old team, I was very flattered to have a lot of approaches from various teams, but really Lawrence’s passion, commitment and enthusiasm was very endearing, it’s very persuasive," he explained.

After spending about 20 years with Red Bull Racing, Newey claimed he needed a new challenge and felt Aston Martin was likely to provide it better than the more established Ferrari in the upcoming F1 seasons.
