McLaren F1 CEO Zak Brown recently posted on X about NASCAR driver Kyle Larson competing with Arrow McLaren in the 2025 Indy500 race in the IndyCar series. This will be the American's second run with the British team in the historic race.
Back in January 2023, the IndyCar team confirmed that Larson would qualify for the 2024 Indy500 with them and Hendrick Motorsport. The American driver was a rookie in the race and attempted to drive in the Indy500 and NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte on the same day.
The challenge to pull off two races in one day is famously known as Double Duty. However, rain played spoilsport in Larson's plan to complete the challenge as he couldn't race at Indianapolis, while the race at Charlotte ended early owing to the same reason.
In the Indy500, Larson started from the middle row in second place and finished the race in P18 and scored 21 points. After that, he continued with his regular NASCAR Cup series with Hendrick Motorsport.
Recently, Arrow McLaren announced that Kyle Larson will once again be trying to complete the Double Duty challenge by competing with the team in the Indy500 in May 2025.
Zak Brown recently posted about Larson joining his IndyCar team for the 2025 Indy500 race. He wrote that the American driver had 'unfinished business' in the prestigious race as he would once again try to pull off the Double Duty challenge.
"Unfinished business for the Hendrick 1100 with @kylelarsonracin, @TeamHendrick and @hendrickcars. May 2025 can’t come soon enough to get Kyle back on track with Arrow McLaren for the Indy 500," Brown wrote.
Since the 2021 NASCAR Cup series champion was with Hendrick Motorsport, this challenge was given a special name, Hendrick 1100, with the number denoting the total number of miles combining both races.
Kyle Larson keen on achieving the Double Duty challenge with Arrow McLaren in Indy500
Kyle Larson said that he enjoyed racing with Arrow McLaren in Indy500 in 2024 and was keen on completing both IndyCar and NASCAR races in a single day in 2025.
In an official press release announcing his participation in the 2025 Indy500 with the British team, he said:
“I really enjoyed the month of May in Indy and racing with Arrow McLaren, but I was really disappointed with missing the Coca-Cola 600 with the No. 5 HendrickCars.com team. I appreciate the second opportunity because we have unfinished business. I really want to complete all 1100 miles, and I think we have the opportunity to battle for the win in both events,” Larson said.
As of now, Kyle Larson is competing in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series with Hendrick Motorsport and stands in 10th place in the drivers' championship.
