Arrow McLaren has had a great qualifying result in the 2023 Indy500, with four of their cars in the top eight of the starting grid. It has been a fantastic stint for the team and could be a potential victory after almost four decades, however, fans have had mixed reactions.
Although they have performed exceptionally well in Indy500, their legendary Formula 1 campaign has received another backlash this season. It has been hard for them to stay competitive against the grid and that has brought them down in the standings.
Fans took to Twitter to share their reactions about Indy500 qualifying. Although the team has been fantastic there, it does not help that they are suffering in Formula 1. Here are some of the best reactions from the internet.
"Understood. McLaren has been focusing on their Indy 500 car..."
"Can you sort the F1 team out ASAP looks like they're driving mobility scooters compared to the indy cars"
Other than their four cars being in the top eight, there is yet another positive sign for McLaren in the 500-mile event. The first two cars on the starting grid are the two Arrows, which would be labeled a "1-2" start by F1 linguists.
Who are the drivers that have given such an incredible headstart to McLaren in Indy500?
McLaren is a historic team participating in the event, but it hasn't happened in almost the past four decades that they have won the Indy500. They have, however, won it three times in the past (1972, 1974, 1976). This year, things look much in their favour with the epic starting lineup. The drivers who were able to achieve the top speeds around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for this start are,
- 1st - Felix Rosenqvist
- 2nd - Alexander Rossi
- 6th - Tony Kanaan
- 8th - Pato O'Ward
Tony Kanaan and Alexander Rossi are previous Indy500 winners; in 2013 and 2016, respectively. This makes it quite apparent that the team will have higher expectations for the two.
Felix Rosenqvist, meanwhile, has won the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in the past and finished third in Formula E. Pato O'Ward, starting in eighth, finished third in the IndyCar series in 2021 and won the Indy Lights event in 2018.
