Fans reacted to McLaren's jackman getting hurt during Oscar Piastri's second pit stop at the 2024 F1 Belgian Grand Prix. This happened after the driver pushed hard into the pits and missed the stopping point, bumping directly into the jackman.

Piastri pitted for the second set of hard tires while leading the Belgian GP on lap 31. While he was at the right speed within the pit, he over-braked in his box, hitting his jackman. He was later seen massaging his neck. This was because even though the pit limiter slows the cars down to a great extent, they still go around at 80 kph, and Piastri would have been around the same speed when the crew member was hit. This also affected Oscar Piastri's stop time, which turned out to be 4.4 seconds.

Fans on social media were quite impressed with the strength the jackman showed as he did not topple or fall despite the impact. He continued his work before sending off the car back into the race. A fan even compared him to the fictional superhero Hulk, saying:

"McLaren has hulk in their Jackman department."
"The McLaren front jackman who just got clobbered by Piastri has absolute nerves of steel," another fan praised the crew member.
"That MCL front Jackman definitely deserves a pay raise," wrote a user.

Multiple times in the long history of F1, jackmen have fallen while facing a similar situation. It happened with Ferrari in the early 2000s and with Lance Stroll when he raced for Racing Point. However, that wasn't the case this time, as Piastri managed to remain standing and was seen laughing it off later. Fans were surprised with this.

Oscar Piastri's podium finish gives McLaren further strength in the championship

McLaren has had the fastest car on multiple occasions this year. Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have managed to win their first F1 races, giving the team a strong position in the championship. While Ferrari seemingly had the second position in the standings sealed earlier in the season, McLaren took that after consistent performances.

Piastri finished P3 in the race, scoring yet another podium. With Red Bull seemingly losing out in terms of performance, their lead at the top is shrinking. After the end of this race, the gap between the top two is only 41 points. With the season break kicking in after this race, the Woking-based team might be able to develop enough to seize the lead in the championship.
