Michael Schumacher's daughter Gina Schumacher was criticized by the seven-time world champion's former manager, Willi Weber, for changing her last name after her marriage last month. Gina-Marie, 27, married her longtime partner Ian Bethke, in late September, after a long courtship in a private ceremony.
The wedding was an intimate affair only attended by close friends and family at Schumacher's £27 million villa in Mallorca, Spain. The daughter of the Ferrari icon shared the pictures on her social media to huge fanfare given the momentous occasion.
As per Bild, the 27-year-old changed her surname on her Facebook profile from Gina Schumacher to Gina Bethke after her marriage with Ian Bethke but continued with Schumacher on her Instagram.
Gina's decision to drop Schumacher did not sit well with Michael Schumacher's former manager Willi Weber as he commented on the change and criticized her, saying, via The Mirror:
"Why would you just drop such a big name? I don't understand it! Giving up a name like that. It's a brand. It's connected to her father. I wouldn't have done that. But that's her decision! The other is my opinion."
Weber, who was not present at the event, was gracious in sending his well-wishes to Gina and added:
"I wasn't invited, but I wouldn't have attended the wedding even if I had been invited. My health isn't good at the moment. I wouldn't have wanted to fly to Majorca. I wish her the best of luck and I hope she has found the right man, that's always important."
Michael Schumacher's daughter also used her husband's last name in her professional career, as she entered her recent equestrian tournament in Texas under the name Gina Schumacher Bethke.
When Michael Schumacher's former manager provided an update on his current relationship with the F1 icon
Former Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher's former manager Willi Weber had previously revealed that he had not met the F1 icon in years after he failed to visit the hospital post Schumacher's skiing accident in 2013.
Speaking with Cologne Express last year, the 82-year-old said:
"When I think of Michael now, unfortunately, I don't have any more hope that I will see him again. No positive news after 10 years. Of course, I regret that very much and blame myself. I should have visited Michael in the hospital."
"I mourned like a dog after his accident. It hit me incredibly hard, you can imagine that. But at some point, the point came when I had to free myself from Michael and let go."
Michael Schumacher suffered life-threatening head injuries after his skiing accident in 2013 and was put in a medically induced coma for years. It was reported that he had his first official appearance in public at Gina's wedding last month to the shock of the people attending as they were caught unaware.
