Max Verstappen had a hilarious response when the Red Bull driver was attending a pre-race event with his teammate Sergio Perez in Mexico. The upcoming Mexico City Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is the home race of Red Bull star Perez, and naturally, there are a series of events taking place in the build-up to the race weekend.
Verstappen arrived in Mexico with a 57-point lead over McLaren's Lando Norris in the F1 standings. With five races and two Sprints to go, the Dutchman is the firm favorite to claim his fourth successive F1 championship.
Verstappen returned to winning ways at the 2024 United States Grand Prix Sprint race last weekend. However, he has yet to win a main race since the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix. With the form the Dutch driver is in, he would want to add more victories to his already illustrious tally soon.
Prior to the race in Mexico, Verstappen and Perez took part in an event where they aimed velcro balls at a large target. However, for Verstappen, some of his efforts went in vain, which triggered the three-time world champion to come out with a hilarious response. Verstappen exclaimed:
"My balls didn't stick!" (As per RBR News on X)
Reacting to Verstappen's comment, the reporter and Perez laughed. Following this, the reporter replied:
"Your what?"
Before Verstappen could answer, Perez snatched the opportunity and said:
"You listen too much to what Jorge Campos [Mexican former goalkeeper] says."
Perez is under tremendous pressure and has struggled to find his form in recent races. The Mexican driver failed to make amends at COTA and finished only two places ahead of his starting position (P7).
His failure to help Red Bull in the constructors' championship is costing the Austrian team hugely as it has lost the P1 position to McLaren, and Ferrari is right behind (only eight points separate the two teams).
Max Verstappen aims to continue successful run in Mexico

Max Verstappen has been very successful around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez track. The Red Bull star claimed victory in Mexico for three successive years in 2021, 2022, and 2023, and will want to add to his tally.
"We made good steps in Austin and I saw some promising improvement with the car," Verstappen told the media. "Historically, we have always gone well here, too, and I always enjoy driving this track. So now it is about keeping the momentum going forward and for us to continue picking up points."
On the other hand, Sergio Perez needs to step up and prove his worth at his home Grand Prix. He's currently struggling down in P8 with 150 points, 204 points less than his teammate Max Verstappen.
