Adrian Newey's wife, Amanda Newey, has dismissed a fan's claim that the former disrespected Lewis Hamilton. These developments come following Adrian Newey's recent move to Aston Martin as a managing technical partner.
Having announced his departure from the defending world champion, Red Bull, earlier this year, Newey has been snapped up by Aston Martin, following plenty of rumors and speculation about his destination. The aero wizard will start working with the Silverstone-based team in 2025 and leave the Austrian outfit after 19 successful years.
Soon after Aston Martin's announcement, the High-Performance Podcast YouTube channel released an interview with Adrian Newey, where he talked about the move and his journey with Red Bull. He also touched on Max Verstappen's and Lewis Hamilton's intense title decider at the 2021 F1 Abu Dhabi GP.
He commented on the defeat in 2021 affecting Mercedes and Hamilton at the time.
Newey said,
"I can't go back into the factory all miserable and downbeat. Part of my position I suppose is to help motivate everybody not just saying 'oh it's so unfair and we robbed' and all that doesn't help does it" (at 1:16:29).
Following this, a fan wrote on X that Newey disrespected Hamilton during the podcast.
"Shame he disrespected Lewis with him comments to Jake Humphries," the fan wrote.
In response to the fan's comment, Amanda Newey refuted the claim, saying her husband respects Hamilton.
"No, he didn't. He has a great deal of respect for Lewis," Amanda Newey replied.
In the past, Adrian Newey has praised Lewis Hamilton for his achievements in F1 and also once said he wanted to work with the British driver.
Adrian Newey on wanting to work with both Lewis Hamilton
Even after signing with Aston Martin, Adrian Newey spoke about how he wanted to work with Lewis Hamilton in his F1 career.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Newey said that when he decided to continue in F1 after Red Bull's departure announcement, Ferrari - where Lewis Hamilton is heading in 2025 - was one of the teams that he looked at.
He added he has been public about wanting to work with Lewis Hamilton as well as Fernando Alonso.
"Once after a couple of months I decided I would like to stay in Formula 1, Ferrari was one of the considerations. I've made no secret of the fact I wanted to work with Fernando and I wanted to work with Lewis. And since they're in different teams, I couldn't fulfill both," Newey said.
From 2025, Newey will work with the two-time Spanish world champion Alonso at Aston Martin.
