McLaren driver Lando Norris this week shared some snippets from the 2024 season. Among them was an adorable interaction he had with his mother and Max Verstappen's girlfriend's daughter, Penelope Kvyat, during the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix earlier this month.
Ahead of the main race on December 8, Lando Norris received a surprise visit from rival Max Verstappen's girlfriend Kelly Piquet's daughter, Penelope Kvyat. On his official YouTube channel, the McLaren driver shared a few snippets of his interaction with the five-year-old and expressed his excitement at seeing her. He said:
"P!Hello! I like your hair." (2:52)
Penelope then shared a sticker with Norris and after he thanked her, the two shared a hug. His mother, who was standing by, then said,
"Now he's mine okay."
To which, Penelope Kvyat replied,
"No, he's mine!"
Abu Dhabi was an important weekend for the British driver, as he had the opportunity along with his teammate Oscar Piastri to lead the iconic brand back to glory for the first time since 2008, when they won the driver's title with Lewis Hamilton. The Woking-based outfit had not won the constructors' championship since 1998 but was able to end that drought after the 25-year-old won the race at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Lando Norris looks back at his first championship challenge
McLaren driver Lando Norris says he fancies his chances of becoming world champion next year given the performance of the car for the majority of the 2024 season. Speaking with F1.com this week, the British driver spoke about the biggest learning from the year, saying:
“Of course. I fancied it already this year, but it was just a little too late. I definitely have had things to improve on and to look back on and try [to] correct and to improve. Nevertheless, I think the thing I’ve learned and I’ve gained the most this year is confidence in myself. Sounds very simple, [but] I’ve just always been quite the opposite kind of guy.
"I always find [that] I need to go out to prove it to myself before I want to start believing anything. This year, yeah I made some mistakes and I didn’t give a good enough fight to Max, but it was a good effort, and the one thing I’ve learned from [it is that] I have what it takes. As much as I want this season now to end and I want to go have a holiday, I’m also really looking forward to next year.”
Lando Norris finished the 2024 season with four race wins to his name and claimed P2 in the driver's championship for the first time in his career. He ultimately finished 63 points behind Red Bull driver Max Verstappen.
