"One place you don’t want to end up in a hostile situation, it’s England": Max Verstappen and Lando Norris urged by F1 pundit to sort things out

Max Verstappen and Lando Norris have been urged by F1 pundit Olav Mol to sort things out before the F1 British GP. The two drivers came together in the F1 Austrian GP fighting for the race win and things got very heated afterwards. Max wanted to go back and take a look at the incident and whether there was something he could have done differently.

Lando Norris, on the other hand, was adamant that it was Max Vertappen's fault and was expecting an apology from the driver about what happened. The two drivers have been fighting for top honors regularly since McLaren brought the major upgrade in Miami, where Norris eventually won.

Max Verstappen, however, took over in the next few races. He won in Imola, lost in Monaco, and followed that with a two-race win streak in Canada and Barcelona. In both Canada and Barcelona, the Red Bull driver faced opposition from Lando Norris. Heading to the next race in Silverstone, both drivers are once again expected to be in tight contention.

In the aftermath, however, Olav Mol has urged both drivers to sort things out because Silverstone can get quite hostile. Talking about this at the Ziggo Sport Race Café, he said,

“Max and Lando both have a role or role model function to make it look peaceful to the public in England. Otherwise, things can happen that we have not seen before in sports."

He added,

"Of course, that has to do with what we see everywhere these days, with opinions and social media, and that kind of idiocy. Then you can end up in a very hostile situation at Silverstone. If there is one place you don’t want to end up in a hostile situation, it’s England.”

Max Verstappen felt sorry for Lando Norris in Austria?

F1 pundit Jan Lammers felt that Max Verstappen's somewhat circumspect demeanor post-race was because he felt very sorry for Lando Norris. After the clash, Max would manage to take his car to the pits and then come in P5.

Lando, on the other hand, was unable to do that and suffered a DNF because the McLaren was too badly damaged. Talking about how Max Verstappen felt sorry for his friend, Lammers said,

“I think Verstappen was happy that he still finished fifth, but that as a friend he felt very sorry for Norris that he had zero points. He is struggling with that. It is a shame that he is now being called what he is being called.”

It remains to be seen what the future holds for these two. Max Verstappen and Lando Norris have been two of the few drivers who are friends off the track. Whether this impacts their relationship or not - it should become visible in the next race.
