McLaren driver Oscar Piastri took a cheeky dig at Indian cricketer Virat Kohli on the latter's spat with Australian opener Sam Konstas at his recent appearance during the Boxing Day Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Aussie driver is currently enjoying the off-season in his home country as he celebrates the holidays with his family.
Piastri turned up to the MCG to watch the Boxing Day Test match between India and Australia in his native Melbourne.
On the opening day of the match, Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli, who has a net worth of $70 million per Celebrity Net Worth, found himself involved in a controversy after he and Aussie opening batter Sam Konstas had a tiff after their shoulder barge with each other. The incident proved costly for the 36-year-old as he was fined 20% of his match fees.
Speaking with Fox Cricket, Oscar Piastri took a sly dig at the incident as he spoke about his win at the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix after pulling off an excellent overtake on Charles Leclerc to take the lead.
'It has been a cool year and that was a highlight - I didn't cop a hip and shoulder for trying to take him on either so that was good. It was a good move to pull off on a track like that. That was a really special moment," Oscar Piastri said.
Oscar Piastri chimes in on his cricket-playing abilities
McLaren driver Oscar Piastri stated that he "participated" in playing cricket during his school years whilst talking about his abilities on the pitch.
As per Channel Nine, the two-time F1 race winner said:
"I participated [at school], I'll say that. I was more of a bowler than a batter, but never at a very high level. It was kind of the only sport left that I could play in the off-season of racing. I always tried to play it, even when I moved to the UK for school. My claim to fame was I played one game in the firsts but that was because all the year 12 equivalents left for their exams so I got a gig."
Piastri also spoke about attending the Boxing Day Test match and added:
"I've been [to the Boxing Day Test] once before but only a couple of years ago. I came to a few 20/20s and one-dayers when I was a kid but then I was away for ages in Europe. It's nice to be back and it's my first time properly out in the middle during the cricket season, not footy season."
On the racing front, Oscar Paistri finished his second year in F1 in P4 and narrowly finished ahead of former Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz in the drivers' standings.
