Oscar Piastri pulled off a stunning drive in Baku to claim the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix victory. The McLaren driver defied enormous challenges from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc to come home in P1. As Piastri claimed his second win of the season, Piastri's mother, Nicole Piastri, gave a joking glimpse into her plans for the next day.

Back in July, after the Aussie driver claimed his first-ever Grand Prix win in Hungary, the McLaren driver's mother reportedly canceled her 6 AM pilates session. And it's no different this time as well.

As Piastri took the checkered flag and won the race, he went straight to his mother, who was in the paddock for the race, and hugged her. Soon after, Nicole took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate her son.

Nicole Piastri wrote,

"Definitely no Pilates for me tomorrow."

The Australian driver started from P2 and was in contention for the win all through the race. Although Leclerc stretched out his lead initially to find a few seconds' gap, the first pit stop neutralized it and brought them on an even keel.

After many changes in leads, Piastri had the last laugh as the Monegasque driver backed off due to a rear tire issue. Leclerc's SF-24 had significantly high tire degradation, which made him lose a significant amount of time.

Following the conclusion of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri touched upon how he kept his nerve, fended off constant challenges from Charles Leclerc, and claimed his second GP win of his career.

Speaking in the post-race interview, Piastri said,

"I tried at the start to get in front, but once I dropped out of DRS I didn't have the pace. After the stop, I felt like I had extra grip and I had to go for it, as if I didn't get past at the start of the stint I never would. I went for a pretty big lunge then clung on for 35 laps. Goes down as one of my better races of my career."

He added,

"Considering where we started when I joined the team last year, we were literally last and now we are leading the championship. It's a big thanks to the team for improving the car but improving myself as well."

Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz collided on the penultimate as they were jockeying for positions. This brought George Russell up to third and handed the Mercedes driver an unexpected podium place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
