About a month after hosting the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix, the iconic Hungaroring venue has been partly demolished for renovation. It's the same circuit where Oscar Piastri won his first-ever Formula 1 race.

The circuit was first introduced in 1986 on an F1 calendar. With an FIA Grade 1 license, the 4.3km-long (2.72 miles) race track has hosted numerous racing events (World Super Bike Championship, DTM, GP2, Super Touring, and a few others) apart from Formula 1. The track has been open to several non-racing experiences such as track walks, karting, open days for cars and bikes, technical driving courses, and a few more engaging activities.

Now, as a part of the complete redevelopment plan until 2026, the Hungaroring Sport ZRt (track operator) has commenced the demolition of the Grandstands, pit lane, and garage area, along with the start/finish straight. This happens to be the second phase of the plan, with the first phase completed in May this year. Once the reconstruction is completed, NSÜ (National Sport Agency Non-profit Ltd.) will take ownership of the popular circuit.

Images of demolition were shared by the track's management on X. Here's a look at the post, captioned:

We told you that it is going to happen… less than a month after the Hungarian GP, and next phase of the redevelopment works is happening at an F1 pace.

For reference, the Hungarian Grand Prix is set to be a part of the Formula 1 calendar until 2027. These renovations will likely help the track operators obtain an extension till 2032.

A brief look at Oscar Piastri's racing journey so far and his maiden victory at the Hungaroring

With his home being close to the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, Oscar Piastri dreamed of becoming a race car driver at a young age. Much like any budding racer, the young Australian began his career with karting.

After gaining considerable experience in local and national karting events, Piastri moved to Europe to fuel his open-wheel racing career. Through the years, the 23-year-old driver competed in several junior Formula divisions. Showing his racecraft, Piastri managed to win Formula Renault Eurocup, Formula 3, and Formula 2 championships in back-to-back seasons from 2019 to 2021.

This development caught the eye of McLaren F1. The iconic British outfit offered a seat to Piastri in 2023 alongside their star driver Lando Norris. The Australian youngster proved his mettle by clinching two back-to-back podium finishes in his rookie season (third place in Japan and second place in Qatar).

Piastri began his 2024 season on a mixed note. However, with McLaren bringing crucial upgrades to their car, the #81 driver has shown improved pace since the Monaco GP (second-place finish in Monaco, Austria, and Belgium).

The highlight of his season so far has to be the race at Hungaroring. Piastri took his maiden F1 victory against the likes of his teammate Norris, Mercedes-AMG's Lewis Hamilton, and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. The win came on his 35th outing in motorsports.

As of now, Oscar Piastri is standing in fourth position in the driver's table, just 10 points behind Leclerc and 32 behind Norris.
