Oscar Piastri recently met the Australian national cricket team's captain, Pat Cummins. Piastri shared a picture with the cricket maestro on his X handle.
Cummins was at Silverstone, United Kingdom for the 2024 British Grand Prix last weekend. He met the McLaren driver, who is also an Australian national, at the Papayas' garage ahead of the race.
In fact, the recently concluded British GP at Silverstone was a star-studded event. Besides former drivers and players, renowned celebrities such as "Game of Thrones" actress Emilia Clarke and Bollywood's Kriti Sanon graced the occasion.
Cricket is quite popular in the Land Down Under, and Piastri, being from the most successful cricketing country in the world, is no different. Besides karting, he grew up playing cricket and his caption said it all.
"Bowling royalty meets part-time medium pacer."
Piastri's fanboyism is quite evident from his social media posts. The #81 driver regularly posts about cricket from all his social media accounts. During the 2024 Indian Premier League, he shared the Delhi Capitals' jersey from his X account, showing his support.
Besides this, he also got into an online banterful exchange with Karun Chandhok ahead of Australia's clash with India at the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.
How did the Silverstone race turn out for Oscar Piastri and McLaren?
Coming into 2024, McLaren had a formidable start to their season. They have since continued their rise which began at last year's Silverstone race.
Lando Norris crossed the finish line in P3 behind race winner Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen in P2 at this year's British GP. His teammate Oscar Piastri came home in P4, ahead of Ferrari's Carlos Sainz. Thanks to their P3, and P4, McLaren scored the highest points (27) at Silverstone.
Despite that, Zak Brown's team failed to match the expectations. Norris and Piastri might drive one of the fastest cars on the grid, but that did not help them on the track. Poor strategies and delayed calls have cost them race wins on multiple occasions this season.
Currently, McLaren stands in P3 in the Constructors' Championship with 295 points, seven points behind Ferrari in P2, and 78 points behind leaders Red Bull. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are in P2 and P5, with 171 and 124 points, respectively. Max Verstappen continues to lead the championship with 255 points.
