Former four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel shared images from his first trip to the Amazon on his social media this week. The 37-year-old is one of the greatest F1 drivers in the sport's history and has driven for some iconic motorsport names such as Red Bull, Ferrari, and Aston Martin.

He holds several records in the sport, including that of becoming the youngest four-time world champion at the age of 26. The German driver retired from F1 at the end of the 2022 season after his two-year stint with the Aston Martin F1 team.

In his final years in the sport, the former Ferrari driver was vocal about off-track matters and lent his support to environmental causes. Vettel often displayed his views by wearing T-shirts featuring slogans regarding environmental matters. He advocated for sustainable fuels instead of fossil fuels.

The 57-time race winner has also prioritized his family life and has been traveling across the world ever since competing in his last event in Abu Dhabi in 2022. He recently posted a series of pictures on his Instagram of his visit to the Amazon and meeting some of the people who reside in the rainforest.

Sebastian Vettel wrote:

"My first time to the Amazon meeting the guardians of the forest - it’s people! Chief Raoni Metuktire, one of the most important indigenous leaders of the world, and Chief Megaron Txucarramãe welcomed me.
"I learned about the importance of protecting their rights, their land, and their people. They fight for their identity - the Amazon forest. There is still a race to win. Thank you @greenpeacebrasil for making this possible."

When Sebastian Vettel spoke about F1's impact on the climate

Former Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel once spoke about the sport's impact on the planet's climate. He said as F1 was burning fuel "to exercise our passion," it was understandable that people raised questions about the sport.

Speaking with CNN in September 2022, the German reflected:

“Obviously, to exercise our passion, we burn fuel and that’s what people see. And if people criticize that, it’s fair. It’s fair to be criticized in a time where we are talking about approaching a winter where people might be not as comfortable as they used to be.
"And might be freezing at home and will have to face very, very different problems, not being able to pay their bills, etc. and so on. So I think it’s right that we do see that and we try and challenge it.”

Sebastian Vettel has been one of the biggest advocates for sustainable fuel and ditching fossil fuels.

New engine regulations which will be implemented in 2026 will see cars run on 50% hybrid and 50% battery-induced engines, along with the use of sustainable fuels, in F1's bid to become a "net zero carbon" sport by 2030.
