F1 fans reacted on social media to rumors that Red Bull could soon be extending Sergio Perez's contract. The Mexican driver's current contract with the team ends in 2024.

The 2024 F1 season has seen Perez fall precipitously in the rankings after the first eight races. While Verstappen tops the leaderboard with 169 points, Checo is currently in fifth place with just 107. He only scored four podium finishes in eight races and finished the year without winning a Grand Prix.

Red Bull is known for expecting its drivers to consistently perform well. Whenever Perez didn't meet the team's expectations, several reports questioned if he would stay with them.

A report from Motorsport.com claimed that Red Bull could soon extend Sergio Perez's contract, despite a dip in his performance in 2024. It further stated that the defending world champions did not intend to pursue Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz or promote RB driver Yuki Tsunoda.

Many fans were unimpressed with the rumor of Red Bull re-signing Sergio Perez. They opined that the team was making the wrong decision by keeping Checo and even claimed that the Mexican could cost Red Bull the constructors' championship in the future.

"Poor decision making," one fan opined.
"Bad decision," another chimed in.
"Red Bull is increasingly likely to sign away their hopes at the constructors. Here’s why: Perez isn’t good enough," one claimed.

Other fans discussed that they wanted to see a new face beside Max Verstappen. One of the followers mentioned that they would like to see Carlos Sainz in the Austrian team.

"I'd love to see another driver in that seat after 4 years with Checo," a follower wrote.
"Carlos Sainz is probably a much better option," another added.

Red Bull team boss on the current driver market and Sergio Perez's potential contract extension

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner stated that the team is well aware of its options in the driver market and addressed Sergio Perez's future with the team.

Speaking to the media, including Sportskeeda, Horner explained that his team knows how the driver market is unfolding. He added that his team would make a decision when the time is right.

"I think with the whole driver market is sort of playing itself out and you know, we know exactly where we're at and where our options are. And in the timing that's right for us, we’ll make decisions about the future," Horner said.

When it came to Sergio Perez, Horner praised the Mexican for being straightforward. Hence, he was not too concerned about dealing with Checo for contract negotiations.

“Checo is always a very straightforward guy to deal with. So I wouldn't expect that to be an issue,” he added.

As of now, neither Red Bull nor Sergio Perez have announced anything about a contract extension or their parting ways with each other.
