A neurosurgeon, Jussi Posti, has questioned Michael Schumacher's reported public appearance at his daughter, Gina-Maria's wedding on September 28, 2024. He feels the seven-time world champion would be too weak to walk or interact with many people.
At the beginning of October, several reports said Schumacher was publicly seen during Gina-Maria's wedding. This could have been the first time in 11 years that the Ferrari legend was spotted.
Ever since Schumacher encountered a near-fatal injury while skiing in 2013, his family has been quite secretive about his condition and whereabouts. Some rumors emerged that the 55-year-old was in his lavish mansion in Majorca, Spain, where he was cared for by his wife, Corinna, and several doctors and nurses.
Schumacher's daughter married Iain Bethke at their four-acre Majorca villa, where the F1 legend was reportedly present and met with many people. However, his appearance at the wedding was questioned by Finnish neurosurgeon Posti. Speaking to Iltalehti earlier this month, he explained that the F1 driver technically remained in a hospital most of his time if his house itself was halfway converted into one:
“If a hospital has been built in his house, with everything medicalised around him, it seems that he has been in hospital most of the time. Based on the information available, I don't think he leads a very active life. Everything points to him being unwell. As bedridden patients, most people become so frail and stiff that it is no longer possible to get them out of bed after so many years."
Ferrari's former boss, Jean Todt, shared details about Schumacher's condition in December 2023.
Michael Schumacher's former boss and close friend's life update about the Ferrari legend
Jean Todt had a close relationship with German F1 legend Michael Schumacher. The two dominated in Ferrari from 2000 to 2004. Speaking to L'Equipe late last year, Todt said:
“Michael is here, so I don’t miss him. [But he] is simply not the Michael he used to be. He is different and is wonderfully guided by his wife and children who protect him. His life is different now and I have the privilege of sharing moments with him. That’s all there is to say. Unfortunately, fate struck him ten years ago. He is no longer the Michael we knew in Formula 1.”
Currently, there is no concrete and official update about Schumacher's health.
