Red Bull's aero wizard, Adrian Newey recently talked about his future in F1. Though the British aerodynamicist is currently enjoying his break, he stated that he will soon decide his future before the end of 2024.
In May 2024, Red Bull officially announced that Newey would leave the team in the first quarter of 2025, bringing an end to a 19-year-long partnership between them. Since his name was synonymous with Red Bull, this was massive for many in the F1 space.
Red Bull's official statement said Adrian Newey would step back from F1's daily operation and simply work on their new supercar, the RB17. Once the car is ready, the car designer will depart from the team altogether.
Following his confirmed departure, several rumors surfaced, discussing where the talented car designer could go after Red Bull. Teams such as Ferrari, Mercedes, and even McLaren became potential destinations for Adrian Newey.
Recently, the Brit told Sky Sports that he is currently focusing on developing the RB17, and will then take a break from F1 for a few months.
"I don't know, at the moment I'm just kind of still working on the RB17. And then taking some time off," Newey said.
However, he added that he would make an informed decision by the end of 2024, after taking a breather and considering all his future options.
"Yeah, that's certainly the target. By then I'll need to make my mind up," he added.
Adrian Newey on enjoying a break from work after announcing his departure from Red Bull
Red Bull's chief technical officer Adrian Newey recently talked about him enjoying a week's holiday after the team announced his departure.
Talking about his future in F1 to Sky Sports, Newey also shared how he, his wife, and both his dogs took a week-long holiday on England's south coast. He also mentioned that he took his Aston Martin DB6 on the road. He was thankful that the weather was good enough for them to enjoy the holiday to the fullest.
"Last week, actually we took seven days...lucky timing on the weather obviously. We went around the south coast with our dogs in the old Aston Martin DB6. That was great fun!" Newey said.
A few days ago, Amanda Newey, Adrian Newey's wife, also posted a picture of the aero wizard enjoying a beer at the Chewton Glen Hotel.
Since joining the ranks in 1988 with the March team, Adrian Newey has dedicated his entire life to F1. Working with some of the best teams in the sport, including Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, Newey designed some of the most dominant F1 cars that won 13 drivers' and 12 constructors' F1 world championships.
