McLaren's Zak Brown has a lot to say about the Red Bull boss, as he claims that Christian Horner says and does stuff that he thinks is "wrong". The war of words which has primarily been one-sided from the American as Horner has opted not to indulge in it in front of the media, began at the F1 Austrian GP when Max Verstappen and Lando Norris made contact.

The collision was a result of the two drivers battling fiercely and trying to gain the upper hand in the fight for the win. After the incident, Max Verstappen was penalized with a 10-second penalty while Lando Norris had to retire from the race. While McLaren backed their driver, Red Bull also did so as Christian Horner would call it a racing incident.

Since then, McLaren boss Zak Brown has been vocal against Red Bull's Christian Horner in the media. During the pre-race F1 British GP press conference, the American claimed that the Austrian team had a lack of respect for the rules. The comments were put forth to Christian Horner who opted not to say anything about it.

In a recent interview with the Independent, McLaren boss Zak Brown was questioned about his back-and-forth with the Red Bull team principal, to which the American said that he speaks up when he feels something isn't right. Brown also claimed that one of the issues with Horner is that he does and says stuff that he thinks is wrong. He said:

“I only respond to things when I think they’re not right. I speak up on issues. It just seems I have more issues with [Christian], more than others, because he says and does stuff I think is wrong.”

He added:

“It’s less about getting under each other’s skin and fighting because we were not competing with them during the cost-cap [episode]. I just felt the integrity of the cost cap was critical for the success of Formula 1 and if it wasn’t taken seriously, the sport would be damaged forever. I was trying to protect the integrity of the sport and they didn’t take it seriously. That’s why I spoke up.”

Red Bull boss' team radio that irked McLaren boss Zak Brown

Zak Brown did, however, reveal that what irked him in Austria was the fact that Red Bull boss Christian Horner came on the radio after the race to put the blame on Lando Norris. According to the McLaren boss, he is very honest with his drivers and if push came to shove he would tell them if they're wrong.

He said:

“We’re very honest with our drivers. If nobody tells him that what he did wasn’t within the regulations, why should he think otherwise? But to have Christian come on the radio and actually squarely point the problem at Lando — who are you kidding? Everyone has seen it."

He added:

“The regulations are very clear — you’ve got to leave a car’s width. He didn’t. Why did he have to say anything? It just felt wholly inappropriate.”

The back-and-forth where Zak Brown has been aggressive for the most part is something that's not going to go down well and we might see Christian Horner retaliating to some of these comments made by his counterpart sometime soon.
