Recent reports have claimed that the Williams F1 team has received a massive financial boost after 100,000,000 of their shares were sold for AUD 1.95 per share on 11 October, totaling nearly USD 130,000,000. This investment was made a week before Williams' interim driver, Franco Colapinto, had a brilliant race in the 2024 F1 US GP and secured P10.
As per the report from Speedcafe, team owners Dorilton Capital have made this huge investment. According to Forbes, Williams was valued at $725,000,000 last year. This latest injection of money would massively help them in the coming years, especially during the 2026 regulation changes.
Williams' spokesperson spoke to Speedcafe about the team's long-term commitment and aim in F1 and how team owners were helping them. They also spoke about how drivers like Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz decided to be on board after seeing the team's ambitions.
“These filings once again demonstrate the committed long-term support of our owners Dorilton Capital, who are providing the investment required to move Williams Racing up the grid,” the spokesperson said.
“Our continued investment in people, processes, technology and infrastructure, along with our bold ambition and rich heritage, is what has attracted Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz to commit their futures to the team and has led to a host of highly-talented and experienced people from across the paddock to join our mission,” they added.
Back in August 2020, Dorilton Capital bought the British team for approximately USD 200,000,000. Ever since then, they have been injecting large amounts into the team to help them grow and climb the F1 ladder.
James Vowles lays out a timeline of when Williams could start winning F1 races again
James Vowles selected a target time window when Williams would be ready to win races in F1. Speaking to F1.com, he said that by 2028, the British team should be capable enough to clinch the top spots.
However, Vowles also mentioned that focusing on taking the right direction towards the top step was key. He also added that he doesn't want Williams to reach the top for just a year or two but to retain the position for a long time.
"I think if you ask me to commit to a date, I would have said more ’28, but I think the point is we should be on the right journey to get towards there as well," Vowles said.
“Getting it right is the real key behind being successful in F1, not for one year but for many, many years in front. [So], ’28 I’d be a lot more confident about looking you in the eyes and saying, ‘Yes’,” he added.
In the 2024 F1 season, the team is currently in eighth place with 17 points. They are chasing RB, which stands in seventh with 36 points.
