Aston Martin has announced a major reshuffle as former Red Bull man Dan Fallows will be stepping down from his role as a technical director. Fallows has been a part of the team for a while and was credited with the surge in performance that the car had in early 2023. Since then, however, the team has struggled with developing the car to its potential.
Aston Martin had started the 2023 F1 season on a strong note, but as the season progressed, it became clear that whatever upgrades the team brought to the car were not working. On the contrary, they made the car worse.
That trend has continued into the 2024 F1 season. While Fernando Alonso had been able to wring a few strong results out of the car early on, as the season progressed, good results have dried out. Aston Martin is now a distant 5th in the championship standings. While the team owner Lawrence Stroll has been going all out in terms of providing the best possible facilities for the team to prosper, the lack of on-track results has been damning.
Dan Fallows is among those who have been at the helm during this period. The former Red Bull man was credited for the team's surge last season. The Aston Martin statement makes it clear that Fallows is stepping down from his role but he won't be leaving the team. The statement read:
"The Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team and Technical Director Dan Fallows have today jointly announced that from November, Dan will no longer serve as Technical Director of the Formula One Team. Dan will remain with the Group."
The Group CEO Andy Cowell thanked Dan Fallows for his contribution to the team, saying,
“I would like to thank Dan for his contribution to Aston Martin Aramco in the last two years. Dan led the team to the success of the AMR23 which secured eight podiums last season.”
Dan Fallows on "passing the baton" at Aston Martin
As quoted in the press release, Fallows said it was time for him to pass the baton to someone else as he looked forward to watching the team's future success. There's still a lack of clarity on what happens next and on whether the former Red Bull man would be replaced or a new role could be created.
Fallows said,
“In my time at Aston Martin, it has been a joy and a privilege to guide the technical team on their journey towards being race and championship winners. It is time for me to pass on the baton, but I look forward to watching the team's future success, which I am sure will come soon.”
Former Red Bull designer Adrian Newey set to join Aston Martin next season and its possible that he might be involved in the role in some manner. The aero wizard has worked with Fallows in the past.
