Sergio Perez's struggles continued at the Qatar Grand Prix on Friday. The Mexican driver failed to make it to the second round of qualifying yet again, this time in the Sprint qualifying at the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix. Perez failed to clear SQ1, and he was out in P16. Following this, fans reacted on social media, calling out the Mexican star.
While his teammate Max Verstappen claimed his fourth consecutive F1 title in Las Vegas last weekend, Perez's downward spiral continued. The Red Bull driver has delivered underwhelming performances in the last few races, and Friday's SQ was no different.
In his final flying lap, Perez was not fast enough to make it to the next round of Sprint qualifying, so he went out along with Yuki Tsunoda, Esteban Ocon, Zhou Guanyu, and Franco Colapinto.
As the Guadalajara-born driver failed to make amends and help Red Bull in the constructors' championship, fans took to social media to share their reactions.
Here are some reactions taken from the micro-blogging site X:
A fan wrote, "[Sergio Perez] continues to disappoint. Yet again. He's washed. Let him go right now."
Another fan said, "Let him just go pls. He's not helping the team."
"For how much longer does Max have to carry the team on his own?" wrote another fan.
"And yet somehow he’s fully confident he will have a seat next year," another fan wrote.
Another fan wrote, "He made the World Championship car look like the worst car in F1 history."
"This is horrific. Unacceptable. And ridiculous. He's making Red Bull look like a loserteam. How in the world can Marko and Horner let this happen?" another fan wrote.
Lando Norris grabbed the pole for Saturday's Sprint race, ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and his teammate, Oscar Piastri. Ferrari duo of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc wrapped up the top five starting positions.
Sergio Perez reacted to his SQ1 exit
Following his exit in the first Sprint qualifying session, Sergio Perez took to his team radio to share his frustration. Here's what he said on the radio:
"Ah, f***'s sake!"
The Mexican driver's SQ3 or Q3 appearance has become a rarer occasion in the latter half of the season. He last appeared in Q3 during the 2024 United States Grand Prix at Austin.
His failure to help Red Bull in the constructors' championship has led to the defending champions falling behind against leaders McLaren and Ferrari.
