Sergio Perez's former teammate shares heartfelt note on his departure from Red Bull: "I learned a lot from you"

Sergio Perez's ex-teammate, Esteban Ocon recently bid the Mexican farewell as he leaves Red Bull and potentially F1. After several months of rumors about his exit from Red Bull, the team finally announced Checo's departure on Wednesday, December 18.

Perez had arguably his worst 2024 F1 season as he finished eighth with only 152 points. The 34-year-old started the season on a promising note, bagging podiums and keeping up with his teammate, Max Verstappen. After a few races, however, Perez's performances dipped, to a point where he was unable to stand on a podium after the Chinese GP.

Sergio Perez was the first to reveal his departure from Red Bull through social media posts. He wrote a long message in both Spanish and English for all his fans.

Following the news, Perez's former teammate from 2017 and 2018, Esteban Ocon wrote a heartfelt farewell message to him. Ocon mentioned he learned a lot about F1 from Checo and wished the Mexican the best for the future, writing (via his X, formerly Twitter handle):

"Gracias por todo Checo. I learned a lot from you and it was great to race alongside you all these years. Wishing you all the best. I am sure we will see you again soon… nos vemos pronto," Ocon wrote.

Following the Mexican's underwhelming run, several rumors emerged that Perez could be replaced by Red Bull's other drivers, such as Daniel Ricciardo, Liam Lawson, or Yuki Tsunoda.

However, the Mexican continued to stick with the Milton-Keynes team. But after the Abu Dhabi GP, Red Bull seniors decided to have a meeting regarding Perez's future with them and eventually decided to part ways.

Sergio Perez himself announced his departure from Red Bull on his official social media accounts, where he wrote a heartfelt farewell message for his fans. He fondly recalled his stint with the Austrian team and felt grateful to have driven for a top team. He was happy to have met new people as he drove for the team and wished everyone the best for the future.

He also hailed his fans, especially Mexican fans, for always supporting him as he wrote:

“I’m incredibly grateful for the past four years with Oracle Red Bull Racing and for the opportunity to race with such an amazing team. Driving for Red Bull has been an unforgettable experience and I’ll always cherish the successes we achieved together. We broke records, reached remarkable milestones, and I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many incredible people along the way," Checo said.

"A special thank you to the fans around the world, and especially to the Mexican fans for your unwavering support every day. We’ll meet again soon. And remember… never give up.” he added.

As of now, Sergio Perez has not hinted anything about his future after departing from Red Bull.
