FIA steward Johnny Herbert has said that Red Bull should terminate Sergio Perez immediately. Herbert's suggestion came right after the Mexican driver failed to shine at the recently concluded United States Grand Prix, and could not help his team in the Constructors' Championship.

Perez's recent performance has not been good. The Mexican star was the weakest among the top eight drivers from four teams: McLaren, Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes. His inability to cope with the pressure and deliver results has hampered Red Bull's progress.

The Austrian team lost its P1 position to McLaren last month, and after Ferrari's recent 1-2 finish at the Circuit of the Americas, it is right on Red Bull's tail. The Prancing Horse has 496 points after 19 races and four Sprints, compared to the defending champion's 504. Furthermore, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are expected to overtake the Max Verstappen-led team in the coming races. Emphasizing this, Herbert suggested immediately removing Perez from Red Bull (via Genting Casino):

"Red Bull is potentially going to lose second place in the Constructors' because it's only got one man doing the job again. Sergio Perez is delivering but not quite delivering enough, so do they replace him now? I think yes, if they’re trying to keep that second place in the Constructors'.
Whether they have the cojones to do it before Sergio Perez’s home race in Mexico is the question - I'd say yes, because of the way the Constructors' is playing out at the moment. Maybe they will keep Perez in Mexico and then make the call for Brazil. They need to do it sooner rather than later if they are going to do it, but it should have happened earlier."

Perez has 150 points, whereas his teammate Verstappen has 354. Thanks to the latter's incredible back-to-back performances, Red Bull is still in the race for the Constructors' Championship.

While Johnny Herbert wants Red Bull to sack Sergio Perez, he also revealed the driver's name who could replace the Mexican at Red Bull, and help the Austrian team in the title fight (via Genting Casino):

"It’s Yuki Tsunoda who should come in. I think Yuki has done a brilliant job this year. He's very consistent as well. Being up against Max is a very tough job, but I think from his consistency I see, maybe he won't be as quick as Max, but I think he'll be not too far behind."

Red Bull probably won't replace Perez immediately, especially ahead of the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix.
