"So Fernando Alonso is out": Fans react to reports of a possible Aston Martin and Honda partnership

With reports of Aston Martin joining hands with Honda for an engine partnership in the 2026 season, F1 fans have been quick to point out that Fernando Alonso might be on his way out with the team.

It was recently reported that the Silverstone-based team might ditch their current engine supplier, Mercedes, in favor of Honda when the sport introduces new engine regulations in the 2026 season.

However, F1 fans believe that Aston Marin driver Fernando Alonso might not be too pleased with the news, given his tumultuous relationship with the Japanese manufacturer. The Spanish driver had a tough time when Honda partnered with McLaren from 2015 to 2017 and publicly berated them on many occasions.

One fan mentioned that the announcement might be Alonso's cue to head out, saying:

"So Alonso is out"

Here are some more reactions:

"We seem to have a car that is maybe not the fastest on the straights" - Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso recently stated that while the AMR23 is not the quickest car on the track in the straights, it is very good in the corners, which will be beneficial for Aston Martin in the Monaco GP this weekend.

Speaking to Sky Sports' Martin Brundle, Alonso said:

“I think so, yes. Hopefully soon. I don't know. We seem to have a car that is maybe not the fastest on the straights. We need to improve that, but we are very good at the corners. So, I would say that the slowest speeds of the championship, let's say Monaco, Budapest, and Singapore. These kinds of circuits, I think we put our main hopes at the moment."

The two-time world champion also spoke about joining Aston Martin from Alpine at the beginning of the season, adding:

“Of course. I think, back in August, every team is optimistic for the following year. Alpine thought the car would be good and I spoke with Lawrence [Stroll] when Seb [Vettel] retired. He said we had a fantastic team and the car will be very different to what Sebastian and Lance [Stroll] are driving right now. I said, ‘Okay, everyone is thinking the same, but let’s see.’ It’s a coin in the air – you never know the result and you don’t have a crystal ball. But I am happy with the outcome for sure.”

It will be fascinating to see how Fernando Alonso fares in Monaco this weekend and if he can win for the first time in 10 years.
