F1 CEO and former Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali spoke about what Lewis Hamilton's attempts to integrate himself into the team's environment. There has been a lot of buzz regarding Hamilton and the most famous team in motorsports joining hands in an iconic collaboration in a multi-year deal.
Domenicali, who was a guest at the Caschi d'Oro award ceremony organized by Autosprint, told Sky that he was looking forward to Lewis Hamilton driving in the famous red car. He said (via formulapassion),
"It will be a moment of great curiosity, there are already photos circulating of Lewis in the red uniform and there is great interest. He is also working hard to learn to speak Italian and understand how to best integrate into our culture.
"I told him that it is very important that he does so. And then there is this beautiful challenge with Charles... For now they love each other very much and I hope that it will be the same at the end of the year ."
The seven-time F1 champion shocked the world of motorsport after he announced his switch from Mercedes to the Italian team in early February 2024. Although he starts his official journey with the Maranello-based outfit in the first weeks of next year, much has already been said and written about the partnership.
Ferrari team boss gives his take on Lewis Hamilton's "emotional" move
Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur said he would understand if Lewis Hamilton were to be emotional in his first outing in the car as he had dreamt about joining the team for 20 years. He added that the British driver would, however, expected to be "focussed" soon enough.
Vasseur said he was not worried about Hamilton's approach in a new environment. He said (via Sky Sports),
“Yeah, it’s true that it’s quite emotional because I think he has this moment in his mind for probably 20 years. It means that it will be emotional, but it has to be emotional for one lap! And then, to be focussed. You know that every single team is different for sure, but we are all chasing the same goal with the same approach.
"What is a bit different is the passion or the emotion around the team, but I think Lewis is well prepared to manage this. I think it’s much easier to arrive somewhere when the passion is at the top than the opposite. I’m not worried at all.”
Lewis Hamilton will partner Charles Leclerc for the next two years and the two will bid to bring glory back to Maranello next year. The team finished P2 in the constructors' championship, behind McLaren, in 2024.
