Sergio Perez's fitness coach, Xavi Martos, recently got a motivational quote tattooed on his left arm, which is said to have been given to him by Perez. The Red Bull driver also told him that it "is for you."
Xavi Martos has worked with Checo for the last many years. The two have been together on the Paddock quite a few times. Recently, a user on X shared a tattoo that Martos got on his hand that read "NEVER GIVE UP." It was mentioned that Sergio Perez gave him the tattoo and said:
"Look! The never give up is for your brother."
From Sergio Perez's time with Force India (which eventually changed to Racing Point) to his first Formula One victory and his current Red Bull extension, the two have worked together for a very long time.
Perez recently signed a two-year extension with the Austrian team, which came as a surprise to many given his recent form. However, team principal Christian Horner believes that Perez is an important aspect of the team.
Christian Horner reveals they need Sergio Perez "in the mix" at Red Bull
Considering his recent performances, Perez has been far from his best. While his teammate Max Verstappen has been winning races, he DNFed in two out of his last three races and finished P8 in Spain. Prior to that, he was P8 in Imola.
This has been a huge hit to Red Bull, as their competitors, McLaren and Ferrari, have developed rather excellently. Mercedes, too, seemed to be in competition earlier in Spain.
Despite these performances, Christian Horner feels that Sergio Perez is important for the team. He stated that the team needs to get him "back into that headspace." Horner said that his performance at the beginning of the season was satisfactory. Horner said:
"We need Checo [Perez] in the mix. He knows that and the team know that. If he's on the back end of the top eight, you lose strategic options, whether you split your strategies and so on. Checo in the first four or five races this year was fantastic. We just need to get him back into that headspace," F1 quoted him.
Red Bull has dominated the past two seasons as a team, winning both the driver's and the constructor's world championships with almost no competition. Checo, however, had a similar spell of disappointing performances during the 2023 season as well.
However, the situation is different this time around. RBR does not have the fastest car, while their competitors are developing at a rapid pace. Hence, even if Verstappen manages to keep the team in a good position, they might lose the constructor's championship.
