Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he would never forget his visit to Mozambique, sharing a heartfelt message with his time spent with the refugees in the country. The seven-time world champion is currently enjoying his summer break to the fullest and has been touring the continent of Africa for the past week.
In the early weeks of the mid-season break, the Brit was spotted in Paris for the Summer Olympics where he went to support his best friend Miles Chamley Watson in the latter's quest for a medal at the Games.
In the past week, Lewis Hamilton has been providing glimpses of his trip to multiple countries in Africa like Senegal and Morocco. In his latest Instagram post, the Mercedes driver shared his experience of meeting refugees in the Maratane Refugee Settlement in northern Mozambique. He wrote in the caption:
"Grateful for the opportunity to meet with refugees living in Maratane Refugee Settlement in northern Mozambique. The country is home to more than 710,000 displaced people, including 25,000 refugees. Being able to meet some of these people is not an experience I take lightly.
"The strength, spirit, and resilience of the people I met will stick with me for the rest of my life, as will the compassion of those working on the ground to defend and protect their lives every day. All of our lives are connected, and we share everything. Joy and pain, triumph and struggle. Our support for one another has to extend globally."
Lewis Hamilton has been enjoying his time both on and off the track as he was able to win two of the last three races before the summer break.
Lewis Hamilton gives his take on the state of F1 in 2024
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton feels it is fantastic for the sport to have four teams and eight drivers fighting closely every single weekend.
As per PlanetF1, the 39-year-old said:
“It’s really fantastic, I think, for the sport, to be having such close teams and drivers. The pedigree of drivers at the top today is really elite and amazing.
“We didn’t expect to be competing with the McLarens or the Red Bulls at this point in the season, you know, with how we started off, so for us to now have closed up and be… It’s going to be one hell of a second half of the season, for sure,” he added.
After 14 races and three Sprints thus far, Lewis Hamilton is currently P6 in the Driver's Championship with 150 points. He is the only driver apart from Red Bull's three-time world champion Max Verstappen to have won multiple races in the 2024 season, clinching the trophy in Silverstone and Spa.
