Lando Norris is looking forward to a battle with Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton at the F1 Singapore GP. The McLaren driver starts the race on pole position and will have the Red Bull driver alongside him on the front row. Lewis will be in P3 on the second row with teammate George Russell alongside him.
McLaren has had one of the best cars on the grid this season, and that has helped propel Lando Norris to a position where he can fight with the likes of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton on a regular basis. The driver has thus ended up winning a couple of races this season and has secured multiple pole positions as well.
Even in the championship battle, Lando Norris has cut the lead to 59 points to Max Verstappen with 7 races left. Talking about the prospect of fighting with the two F1 giants, Norris confessed that this was something he always looked forward to. During the post-qualifying press conference, the McLaren driver said,
"It is something always to look forward to, I had a great battle with Max in Austria, however, it ended, and at other tracks too. It doesn't change anything, they'll just probably try and play more tricks as they're smarter than other drivers and know how to play the longer or shorter game, probably more than other drivers, too."
He added,
"I mean, it's pretty cool that I'm here and there are all the championships, and something like 150 wins (actually 166) between them, I've got nothing to compare to them."
Lando Norris admits he's looked up to both Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton
Lando Norris also admitted that he looked up to both Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton as he was making his way through the sport. Calling both drivers as someone who he has a lot of respect for, Norris said that what stood out for both was how they wanted to drive as racing drivers. He said,
"I find it cool that I am here, amongst them and think it is pretty awesome so I respect them a lot and have looked up to both of them for a long time, both literally and mentally."
He added,
"It doesn't change what I do, how I go out and drive, mainly because when you are on track, and I probably know what to expect a bit more from them having seen them drive, which they do with respect, and they both want to drive as clean racing drivers."
Lando Norris will be starting the race from pole position, but he's yet to keep the lead on the first lap, even once when he's started from this position in his career. With Max Verstappen, the driver Norris wants to hold off in the title battle; it would be interesting to see how he approaches the race.
