F1 fans recently reacted to F1's official X account posting a head-to-head comparison between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. There has been a massive difference in performance between the two Red Bull drivers in the 2024 F1 season so far.
Both Verstappen and Perez started the 2024 F1 season on the front foot. The Dutchman won in Bahrain and Jeddah while Checo secured second place. However, after the Miami GP, Perez's form dipped massively. While Verstappen fought with top drivers like Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, and Lewis Hamilton for race wins, Perez was down in the midfield, trying to score a few points.
After the Belgian GP, F1's official X account released a graphic depicting the head-to-head statistic between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. The statistic outlines Verstappen's dominance over his teammate in terms of finishing ahead of him, qualifying ahead of him, scoring more points, and more.
Several F1 fans were unimpressed with Sergio Perez's performance compared to his Dutch teammate. They discussed how the head-to-head stats were embarrassing to look at and urged the Mexican driver to step up his performance in the remainder of the season.
"This is embarrassing," one fan wrote.
"Embarassing from Checo," another echoed.
"Verstappen is killing it, poor Perez needs to step up his game," another fan wrote.
Some followers also opined on Red Bull's decision to keep Sergio Perez despite his subpar on-track performance. They speculated that there are chances his form might not improve even in 2025. Another fan called the Austrian team 'Ricbull', which had the initials of Daniel Ricciardo, hinted that the Australian should replace Perez.
"I can not believe they are going to keep him. Even if he improves at the end of this year. It’ll be the same again next year if not worse," one follower opined.
"Ricbull pls," another chimed in.
Max Verstappen supports Sergio Perez and prioritized RB20's concerns
Max Verstappen explained that more than Sergio Perez's recent performance dip, RB20's issues should be Red Bull's main concern.
Speaking to the media after the Belgian GP, the three-time world champion said that Perez's weekend at Spa was quite positive and pinpointed RB20's issues with tire life. He urged that Red Bull should prioritize fixing any issues present in the car. He said (via PlanetF1):
“I think our main concern is the car. That's what we should focus on mainly. Because I think if you look at Checo’s weekend, it was very positive I would say. Of course in the race, it just shows that we have difficulties with the tyres, I think still, the tyre life. So I think that should be our main priority,” Verstappen said.
After the Belgian GP, Max Verstappen continues to lead the drivers' championship with 277 points, while Sergio Perez is down in seventh with only 131 points.
