Max Verstappen has defended his girlfriend Kelly Piquet against 'false accusations' and hate on social media. The daughter of former three-time world champion Nelson Piquet, Kelly has recently been at the receiving end of hate messages regarding her relationship.

The couple started dating each other in late 2020 and have been together ever since, residing together in Monaco. Piquet was earlier in a relationship with former Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat for quite some time before ending things in November 2019. The Russian driver and the Brazilian model share a daughter named Penelope, who was born in 2019 as well.

Recently, there were accusations about Kelly Piquet and certain "photoshopped screenshots." Piquet responded by making a plea on her social media platforms to not spread accusations and lies as it has 'real life repercussions.'

She was supported by her boyfriend and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, who wrote:

“This has to stop. These false accusations by certain individuals on Instagram and TikTok are insane and ridiculous at the same time. Hate has no place in this world. We know what’s true within our family and we are very happy together. I love you."

Max Verstappen's girlfriend releases statement on online hate

Max Verstappen's girlfriend Kelly Piquet said in a statement that she has had to navigate through online hate for the last three years.

In her Instagram post, she wrote:

“A note from me and a gentle reminder to all…The online world can be a wonderful place for various reasons, but a very scary one when wrong information and lies are thrown around. I am unsure of the appropriate approach to address hate stemming from falsehoods. I have considered composing a response and letting it stand.
"For over 3 years I’ve been navigating a very strange and upsetting wave of accusations, rumors, fabricated situations, fake testimonials, photoshopped screenshots… you name it."

She added that she had been silent previously and did not focus too much on the negative aspect, but recent developments have caused her to address the matter.

"All the while staying silent and not playing into these ridiculous claims. Accusations made in the past months especially have taken on another level of defamation," she said.

While stating that she wasn't a 'perfect person,' Kelly added that the negative comments and hate affected her and her loved ones deeply. She further said:

"I hope this serves as a reminder for people to verify online content before making threats."

Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet lead a very private life away from the track. The Dutch driver likes to spend time inside his house and playing with Piquet's daughter, Penelope, who he shares a really good equation with.
