Toto Wolff dismissed conspiracy theories suggesting sabotage against Lewis Hamilton. Speaking to the onsite media after the Spanish GP, the Mercedes chief was happy for the Briton’s first podium of the season.

Top team members and all of the permanent journalists and media houses, including Sportskeeda, received an anonymous email. The email was allegedly from a Mercedes employee who claimed Lewis Hamilton was the target of internal team sabotage. Wolff was quick to deny that it was a team member and even went so far as to request that the police look into the situation.

When asked if Lewis Hamilton's podium at the Spanish Grand Prix put conspiracy theorists to rest, Wolff responded appropriately. He said that the Briton’s podium was long overdue and felt that the experienced driver had simply been unlucky with strategy on multiple occasions this year.

Commenting on the conspiracy theorists and Lewis Hamilton’s podium, Wolff said:

“This conspiracy theorists I have zero respect for because they have no brain. We want the car that wins races and championships and who doesn't get that should be watching another sport. But it's good to see that he has a great weekend because it has been a while that he was on the receiving end, and strategy has worked against him, and today that was in his favour. So I'm happy that we have that podium for him, because it has been a while.”

Toto Wolff dismisses suggestions of rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell

George Russell was angry with Lewis Hamilton for impeding him during the qualifying of the Spanish GP, after which there were rumors of tension in the camp. However, Toto Wolff has dismissed the suggestion of a rivalry between the duo. Even though they are both fierce competitors who are driven to succeed, in his opinion, they have a great deal of respect for one another. The 52-year-old dismissed the suggestion of any animosity between the Mercedes duo and was confident of being able to manage the two.

Asked how he would handle the rivalry between the Mercedes drivers through the season, Wolff said:

“There will always be a rivalry between two drivers, especially when the card becomes capable to win and it's normal. But it's the two are very respectful with each other. We are transparent in the team that's a lesson that I have learned, that we're not holding back. We're not letting anything grow in terms of animosity and from that angle I think that is business as usual."

Lewis Hamilton has scored 70 points for the team and is eighth in the Championship. Meanwhile, his teammate, Russell, has currently scored a total of 81 points and is seventh in the driver’s standings. Mercedes is fourth in the Constructors Championship right now, but over the past two races, it appears that they have improved their performance. With Catalunya being an aero-efficient track, their pace around the circuit was close to both McLaren and Red Bull. Given their upswing in performance, one can expect them to join the front runners in the upcoming race weekends.
