In what could be a sign of mounting trouble at Red Bull, driver Max Verstappen's father Jos Verstappen had some choice words for the team as he claimed that the era of their dominance is over. Jos has been at odds with the team and its functioning this season and has aired his thoughts on multiple occasions.

It began with Jos Verstappen targeting Christian Horner after the first race of the season, when he said that the team principal was breaking the team apart. That was also the time when the pressure by Horner on the drivers was at its peak. Jos was away from the limelight for the most part since then only to resurface in Monaco now that it has abated.

At the principality, Red Bull had a horror weekend that saw Max Verstappen finish only in P6 while teammate Sergio Perez crashed out in the first lap. The weekend also saw Charles Leclerc close the gap on Verstappen in the championship. The two drivers are now separated by 31 points, a gap that seems far more reducable.

Talking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf after the race, Jos Verstappen bluntly said that maybe the team needed to focus on racing 'instead of other things'. Max Verstappen's father said,

"The era when Red Bull had the dominant car really seems to be over now. Maybe they should start focusing a bit more on racing and mutual communication again, rather than on other things."

Is Max Verstappen making Red Bull look better than it is?

Jos Verstappen was quick to point out where Sergio Perez finished in the race as he made the argument that his son Max Verstappen was taking the car to places it didn't deserve. Talking about how he was curious to see Red Bull address this, he said,

"There will definitely be races where Red Bull will be in good shape again. But I am very curious to see how they are going to solve this. Something really needs to happen there."

He added,

"Red Bull needs to find out where this problem is coming from, because it is clear that teams like Ferrari and McLaren are getting closer. Max has still been able to mask that somewhat, but the big difference with Sergio Perez is becoming more and more obvious."

Notably, the race also saw Charles Leclerc end Max Verstappen's 8-race pole position streak. The drivers now head to Canada for the race on 9 June.
