F1 fans recently reacted to McLaren CEO Zak Brown and Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz photobombing each other's team group photo after the 2024 F1 Mexican GP.
In the race in Mexico City, both Ferrari drivers and Lando Norris were on the charge. They were the top three runners during most of the race, especially after Max Verstappen served a 20-second time penalty for pushing Norris off the track and gained an advantage during their initial tussle in the race.
The race ended with Carlos Sainz winning the Mexican Grand Prix, Lando Norris finishing second, and Charles Leclerc securing third place.
After the race, F1 teams that manage to bag a podium finish usually take group pictures with the trophies and celebrate with champagne after the picture is taken. When Ferrari was about to take their group picture for P1 and P3, Zak Brown sprang into the frame and knelt in front of the trophies to hilariously photobomb the picture.
Later on, when McLaren was taking their picture for Norris' P2 finish, Mexican GP race winner Sainz also photobombed their picture by kneeling in the middle of the group.
Many fans hilariously talked about the photobombing and were generally delighted to see the two teams celebrate together. Even though both teams have been fierce rivals in F1, most fans were happy to see them being friendly off-track.
"McLaren and Ferrari getting along...Utter woke nonsense!" one fan wrote.
"First Zak photobombed the Ferrari team pic then Carlos photobombed the McLaren one as comeback," another mentioned.
One fan also mentioned how Zak Brown was happy for Carlos Sainz's win. Both have worked together when Sainz was in McLaren in 2019 and 2020.
"He was happy for Carlos win. I love this," one added.
"Zak started a photobomb war, and Carlos just leveled up," another wrote.
"This is all a sport really is. Rivals on track. Friends off track," a follower said.
Ferrari prefers to stay "under the radar" and improve their performance while McLaren and Red Bull bicker
Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur talked about how his team has been improving their performance while being under the radar. Recently, the spotlight in F1 has been on McLaren and Red Bull, whose drivers Lando Norris and Max Verstappen have had several intense on-track battles.
Meanwhile, the Italian giants managed to win the 2024 F1 Mexican GP and also secure third place. Speaking to Sky Sports after the race, Vasseur said that he prefers his team to stay under the radar and climb to the top steps while other teams take the drama spotlight as they fight for both constructors' and drivers' championships.
"We have the advantage to be under the radar. The discussion is more about the fight between Lando and Max, between [McLaren boss] Zak [Brown] and [Red Bull boss] Christian [Horner], between Mercedes and I don't know who -- and for me it's perfect. Let’s stay under the radar and stay focused on what we are doing," Vasseur said (via PlanetF1)
As of now, the Maranello-based team is second in the table with 537 points and is chasing constructors' leaders, McLaren with 566 points. Meanwhile, the defending world champions, Red Bull, are in third place with 512 points.
