Charles Leclerc had a massive crash during the Free Practice 2 (FP2) session at the Hungaroring circuit. The impact of the crash was strong enough for FIA officials to deploy the F1 medical car to assist the Monegasque driver.

The series of misfortunes seems to be continuing for the Ferrari star Leclerc this season. The 24-year-old racer has been finding it difficult to contend for podium finishes since the start of the 2024 Formula 1 season. Although he stands third in the driver's championship, marginally ahead of his teammate Carlos Sainz, he is still 100 points behind the current leader, Max Verstappen.

Adding to the woes were Leclerc's dismal results in Austria and Great Britain, where he managed to finish the race in 11th and 14th position, respectively. The young Ferrari driver tried to make amends in Hungary. He had a flying start in FP1, where he ended third fastest, just 0.298 seconds behind Verstappen.

However, FP2 turned disastrous for the racer from the Mediterranean Principality. Trying to gain maximum momentum through the chicane, Leclerc hit the kerbs a touch too fast, thereby resulting in a spin and hitting the barriers. The high G-force impact triggered an emergency response from FIA. The officials red-flagged the session and sent out the medical car to aid Leclerc.

The entire incident was shared on X by a Ferrari fan page. Here's a look at the post, captioned:

Despite the impact, Leclerc reported he was okay on the team radio. As of now, there has been no comment from the driver.

Here's a look at Charles Leclerc's worst results in the 2024 Formula 1 season so far

After finishing fifth in the 2023 season, Charles Leclerc began his 2024 Formula 1 season with a positive outlook. However, even with one of the fastest cars on the grid (Ferrari's SF24), the young Monegasque driver was unable to make an impact in the first five races.

Leclerc was unable to beat his teammate Carlos Sainz in the first three races at Bahrain, Australia, and Japan (Sainz missed the Saudi Arabian GP due to a medical emergency). However, things improved for the 24-year-old racer in China, Miami, and Emilia Romagna, where he was able to outperform his Spanish colleague.

Charles Leclerc's best result came at Monaco, where he won his home Grand Prix for the first time. However, post-Monaco, his performance began to dip against the likes of Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, George Russell, and Lewis Hamilton.

Leclerc witnessed his first DNF in Canada with a mechanical issue. Further impacting his season were the races in Austria and Great Britain. In Austria, an early race contact with Piastri saw Leclerc take damage and end the race in 11th position. At Silverstone, changing weather conditions and bad pit-stop strategies saw him finish in 14th place.

Despite his best efforts to salvage the situation, Leclerc crashed massively in the FP2 session at the Hungaroring circuit. This will likely impact the qualifying and main races for the young Ferrari driver.
