Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso was seen struggling to get out of his AMR24 during the recently concluded Brazilian GP. It was a disastrous weekend for the Silverstone-based outfit as they went away from the iconic Interlagos track empty-handed.
The British team failed to get out of the SQ1 in Sprint Shootout and started the 24-lap Sprint from the pitlane after changing the setup of the car. But they were unable to score any points as the AMR24 looked like the slowest car on the grid.
Things improved a bit in the wet conditions, as despite heavy crashes from both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll in the qualifying session, both drivers made it to the Top 10. But after Stroll's exit on the formation lap, the two-time world champion never looked comfortable throughout the chaotic 69 laps at the track on Sunday.
In the final few laps of the main race, Alonso on his team radio complained of severe back pain due to bouncing and promised to bring the car home to reward the efforts of the mechanics. In a video floating on social media, Fernando Alonso can be seen taking the help of his mechanics to get out of the car, citing the pain in his back.
Fernando Alonso analyzes his P14 finish at the Brazilian GP
Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso stated that it was a "tough day" for the team as he finished P14 behind the Kick Sauber of Valtteri Bottas and outside the points at the end of the Brazilian GP.
As per F1.com, the 43-year-old said:
"All in all it was a tough day today. We had to change some components after the crash in Qualifying which meant the car was a little bit slower. We also had a brake issue after the restart. The car was really bouncing in the second half of the race - in other circumstances I would have stopped.
But the mechanics did such a good job to get the car ready after the crash, so I finished the race for them. The triple-header has not been easy for us, with another one coming. We need to regroup and find some more performance."
Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack sympathized with his driver and added:
"Fernando was in the points for most of the race but also locked the rears and was shuffled down to the back of the pack. He was in a lot of discomfort at the end of the race with the bumpy track so our priority is to make sure he is OK."
Aston Martin's P5 in the Constructor's Championship could be under threat from Alpine, RB, and Haas F1 at the end of the season given the amount of points scored by their competitors in the last few races.
