Aston Martin F1 driver Fernando Alonso was visibly angry with the FIA officials during the red flag in the final minutes of the Q3 session during the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday. RB driver Yuki Tsunoda brought on the red flag for the second time in the qualifying hour on Saturday, with Sergio Perez causing the first one after he crashed in Turn 6 at the Hungaroring.

The damage to the VCARB01 meant that the FIA race stewards decided to red-flag the session with two and a half minutes remaining in the Q3 session. The two-time world champion was one of the drivers whose hot lap was impacted by the stoppage and he expressed his frustration in parc ferme.

In a video circulating on social media platform X, Fernando Alonso was seen throwing his jacket and cap to the ground while talking to an FIA official during the driver weigh-ins.

Speaking with DAZN, the Aston Martin driver did not hold back on his comments and claimed that the FIA does make 'gross mistakes' from time to time, saying:

“The truth is that the FIA sometimes gets it right and sometimes they make gross mistakes, today they had made one. They put out the red flag when I was in the last corner, which is surprising. There was an accident at turn eight [five]. Normally they always wait for the cars to complete the lap. It’s the ‘spoken norm’.”
“When entering the pit lane, Lance and I were put into parc ferme. They closed the pit lane. They put us into parc ferme, we got out of the car, then they told us that Q3 was starting again. We went back to the car, they tightened our seatbelts, and we went to the garage. I had no more tires, so I didn’t go out anymore," he added.

Fernando Alonso analyzes his qualifying session at the Hungarian GP

Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso stated that the British team had to be 'pleased' with P7 and P8 at the end of the Hungarian GP qualifying session after bringing a haul of upgrades to the weekend.

As per F1.com, the 42-year-old said:

“I think we have to be pleased with seventh and eighth positions today and both cars inside the top ten again. We brought some updates to the car this weekend and it appears to have made us more competitive so far."
"The points are given out tomorrow though, so let's see if we can deliver a good result in the race,” he added.

Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin need to score important points as they are being chased by RB and Haas in their battle for P5 in the Constructor's Championship after 12 races and three Sprints thus far.
