Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri's manager and former Red Bull driver Mark Webber were involved in an epic tussle at the 2011 F1 Korean GP. The Korea International Circuit at Yeongam hosted an F1 race from 2010 to 2014 before it was removed from the calendar at the beginning of the Turbo-Hybrid era in 2014.

The track featured some tight and twisty chicanes which were sometimes closely surrounded by walls in some parts of the track. During the 2011 edition of the race, then McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton found himself duking it out with Mark Webber in the Red Bull for P6 after the first of pitstops.

In a video floating on social media, both drivers displayed excellent race craft as they went wheel-to-wheel on Lap 19. The battle proved to be pivotal as Hamilton eventually finished P2 behind Sebastian Vettel and held off the challenge from Webber, who finished in P3.

While appearing on the Formula for Success podcast, Webber spoke about Lewis Hamilton's wheel-to-wheel abilities with many insinuating that Oscar Piastri might possess a similar racing style. He said:

“I heard about Lewis [Hamilton] in karting that he was just always hard but fair. I’m not putting Oscar in Lewis’s category; obviously he’s got to earn that. Here’s Lewis with over 100 GP wins; Oscar’s just at the start of his journey."

"But at the moment it looks like through his junior categories … his way of racing week in, week out, his damage bill is incredibly low.I think the respect from the other drivers that he’s raced against through the junior formulas has been always there, and he’s getting that respect. He wants to get respect."

McLaren driver Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton also battled for P7 when the Mercedes driver tried to make an audacious pass on the young Aussie at the 2023 Italian GP.

While appearing on Beyond the Grid earlier in the season, Piastri spoke about Mark Webber's reactions to Lewis Hamilton showcasing respect for the 23-year-old and said:

“I think it was Mark actually said to me, after Monza, ‘if he didn’t think much of you, he wouldn’t have come and said anything’. I’m going to trust Mark on that one. I feel like it’s a good bit of advice or wisdom."
“Lewis has not had that many incidents in his life so it could be easy for him just to brush it off but he had a lot of respect. Of course, I wish that we didn’t crash in the first place, but I had a lot of respect for him being like that,” Piastri added.

Piastri and Hamilton displayed a great example of clean, hard but fair racing during the 2024 British GP in the damp conditions while battling for P2.
