Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was left frustrated after he qualified P3 for the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday behind the McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who finished P1 and P2. The three-time world champion was always on the backfoot throughout the session and was never on the pace of the British driver throughout the session.
The Dutch driver complained to his team engineer at the end of the Q1 session as he was agitated that he could not extract most of the car. His fury was visible to all when he hit his steering wheel in frustration after he crossed the line to finish P3 in the Q3 session on his final run.

Speaking in his post-qualifying interview with F1TV, Max Verstappen mentioned that it was a 'tricky session' for him, saying:
"I tried. The whole weekend we have been a little bit behind and that was also the case in qualifying. I tried to make it as close as possible but unfortunately just not enough. A bit difficult to pinpoint why that is, I would have liked a bit more grip but it's not there at the moment."
"P3 is still very close but I just hope that tomorrow the car is good in the race and at least we can follow them and see what we can do there."
Max Verstappen previews his chances of a race win on Sunday
Max Verstappen stated that he didn't envision a drastic improvement overnight as he believed that McLaren would be fast in the race as well.
Speaking with ViaPlay, the Red Bull driver predicted his chances for a race win and said (via RacingNews365):
“McLaren is normally faster during the race as well, so I don't think we will suddenly be faster during the race. All that team play really doesn't matter to me. If you are faster you overtake them, so then they can play a team game but it won't matter."
“But anyway I don't feel like we're faster at the moment, so I'm really not happy about it either. I think I have that right because it will be another long season this way,” he added.
Max Verstappen has not been on the pole position since the Miami GP, having started the season with seven consecutive pole positions before losing the streak to Charles Leclerc for the Monaco GP.
