Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was left amused after the F1 paddock recreated the iconic moment between him and Charles Leclerc when they were carting against each other. The reigning three-time world champion and the Ferrari driver have been rivals since they were kids and have continued their on-track battles at the pinnacle of motorsport.
One of the most iconic moments in their rivalry happened during their karting days after a young Leclerc had an intense battle and pushed a young Verstappen off the track. Although the Dutch driver eventually won that particular race, he wasn't happy with the Monagasque's driving.
But Charles Leclerc was less fussed about the battle and called his tussle with Max Verstappen "just an inchident". The moment has become synonymous with both drivers and ahead of the F1 Mexican GP, F1 personnel including several drivers like Ollie Bearman, Jack Doohan, and Charles Leclerc himself recreated the moment.
In a clip floating on social media, the Red Bull driver was seen looking at the video of F1 personnel recreating the meme and replied if he remembered the moment:
"Clearly it's just an inchident. Yeah, like the day of yesterday."
Charles Leclerc gives his take on battling Max Verstappen
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc stated that he has always enjoyed his battles with Max Verstappen despite the Dutch driver pushing the limits. In his pre-race press conference, before the US GP, the 27-year-old said:
"I mean, Max has always been on the limit of regulations, but that's what makes racing Max so exciting. And that's also why I really like having those fights with him, is that you know that he will never leave any room to you, and it will be always at the limit of the regulations."
"And that's what makes those fights very exciting. Sometimes it goes a little bit over, but yeah, that's what makes Formula 1 exciting. Those fights makes it excitin," he added.
The Red Bull driver was called into question for his defense against championship rival Lando Norris in Austin, Texas last week but told F1.com:
"I don’t understand why suddenly now we need to ask and scream for changes in the regulation when it’s been like that forever. It’s how the rules are written. I didn’t make the rules, first of all, I just follow the rules as much as I can. Of course, sometimes you get caught out with it, we’ve had that in the past."
Max Verstappen got off scot-free while Lando Norris was given a five-second penalty for overtaking the former outside the track and gaining the position and was demoted to P4 behind the Dutch driver.
However, both the McLaren driver and Lewis Hamilton believed that the race stewards had to relook at the rules after their battles with Max Verstappen.
