Red Bull team principal Christian Horner shared a video of Max Verstappen's race engineer GianPiero Lambiase and called him a multitalented person. The Anglo-Italian engineer is a popular figure in the F1 paddock and has been with the three-time world champion since his first race with Red Bull in Spain in 2016.
Lambiase is known for his straightforward nature and no-nonsense approach when dealing with racing matters and is often heard on the team radio getting into disagreements with the Dutch driver mid-race. Even so, the bond between him and Verstappen remains unshakable as they continue to garner more success in F1.
Ahead of the British GP on Sunday, Red Bull team principal Horner invited the team drivers along with some key members of the team to his residence for dinner.
During the night, the 50-year-old took to his Instagram Stories to share a video of Lambiase's skills on the drums. The latter could be seen playing the instrument, along with some other performers. Horner wrote on his story:
"The multi-talented race engineer @gplambiase"
After displaying his off-track talents, Lambiase showcased his prowess in his day job as well, guiding Verstappen to P2 despite the Dutchman having the third-fastest race car at Silverstone.
Max Verstappen chimes in on the importance of GP Lambiase during the British GP
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen stated that both he and GianPiero Lambiase worked together during the changing conditions at the British GP on Sunday to make the right calls at the right time, enabling him to get an unlikely podium.
In his post-race press conference, the 26-year-old explained:
"It's a constant discussion that I have with GP, you know, with the radar, he tells me the information he has as well as he can. And then as a driver, of course, at one point if you don't feel like you can continue on a slick, or you think now it's time to go to the Inter, you have to shout over the radio that you're coming in. So that's what we did. And then it's the same from Inter to slick.
"Of course, the team can sometimes help you a little bit more with that if someone is on a slick already. But at the end of the day, the sun was coming out, the track was still drying up quite quickly from the last few days even and I took a bit of risk. Not being 100% sure this is the right lap, but we went for it and it was the right lap at the end of the day." he added.
Verstappen extended his championship lead over Lando Norris to 84 points despite not having the fastest car since Miami, when he had lost to the Brit.
