Oscar Piastri was recently spotted attending the cricket test match series between India and Australia in Melbourne. The Australian was interviewed and was also given a chance to control a broadcasting camera.
After the 2024 F1 season ended, most drivers returned to their homes to relax and reset for next year. Piastri did the same after having the best F1 season of his career so far. The Aussie won two races and bagged six podiums in his second year. During the holidays, he was seen spending time with his family in his hometown, Melbourne.
Recently, Oscar Piastri attended the India vs Australia test match on Boxing Day during the first session of Day 3 in the series. In various clips posted on social media platforms, Piastri was seen entering the Melbourne Cricket Ground Stadium, walking directly to the edge of the pitch, and sitting in one of the chairs offered to him.
He was then seen shaking hands with several Australian cricket team members who arrived and sat beside him.
When the match was stopped for a lunch break after the first session, Oscar Piastri had a media session on the ground. During the break, he was also given a chance to drive a remote-controlled car that had a broadcasting camera on it. While the McLaren driver controlled the small car, cricket presenters humorously tried to commentate just like F1 commentators.
He also spoke to former cricket player turned presenter, Adam Gilchrist, for an exclusive interview during the India vs Australia test match.
Oscar Piastri speaks about experiencing Ashes cricket series while being in McLaren and his past cricket match appearances
In the interview with Fox Cricket, Oscar Piastri explained how he felt being in a British F1 team, especially during the Ashes series between England and Australia cricket teams. He also talked about how he has visited a Boxing Day Test series once but has attended several 20/20 and One Day cricket matches when he was young.
"Being in a British team, there is a lot of banter going on, especially when the Ashes are on. I've been [to the Boxing Day Test] once before but only a couple of years ago. I came to a few 20/20s and one dayers when I was a kid but then I was away for ages in Europe," Piastri said. (via nine.com.au)
'It's nice to be back and it's my first time properly out in the middle during cricket season, not footy season," he added.
Oscar Piastri ended the 2024 F1 season in fourth place with 292 points in the drivers' championship table. He narrowly beat fifth-placed Carlos Sainz who had 290 points. Meanwhile, his teammate Lando Norris finished second in the standings with 374 points.
