McLaren driver Oscar Piastri shared an emotional message for his fans as he claimed that the feeling of winning his first race win was 'slowly sinking in'. The Aussie driver took the lead of the race on the opening lap from his teammate Lando Norris, who started in the pole position and held the advantage for most of the race.
However, the 23-year-old's maiden victory was marred with controversy regarding the team orders implemented by the Woking-based outfit, as they told Norris to slow down and give Piastri back the lead with just a couple of laps remaining. "Hey everyone, 24 hours on from a pretty epic moment in my career so far, so I just want to send a quick video or post a quick video saying "thank you for all the support". Firstly to everyone that was there at the track, I think I said after the race but there were a lot of Aussie flags out there so yeah thanks for all your support from Down Under."
"I think it's time to let it sink in a little bit more. It's kind of hard to take in the moment, to realize what you've accomplished and how long you've been waiting for that moment," he added.
The McLaren driver pointed out that the moment as:
"Something I've dreamed of since I was a kid. It's starting to sink in a little bit more and I'm just very happy. We'll go again this week, try and get the second one on the board."
