Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz and Red Bull driver Sergio Perez were involved in a dreadful crash while fighting for the final podium position in the main race at the F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday. The Mexican driver was in contention for a race win after the round of pit stops, as he was following Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc to the last couple of races till the end.
Perez was able to make the move on the Ferrari driver and momentarily take P2 for himself but couldn't hold on for long as the Monegasque fought back immediately in Turn 1.
Unable to control his RB20 heading into Turn 2, Sergio Perez was overtaken by the other Ferrari of Carlos Sainz, who experienced an understeer heading into Turn 3 after his failed attempt to get his teammate.
Both drivers Perez and Sainz banged wheels on the straight amidst their eagerness to get the final podium position on the penultimate lap.

Following their crash, the third place was awarded to Mercedes driver George Russell, who had started the race at P5.

Red Bull driver Sergio Perez was unhappy with Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz after their crash in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday. On his team radio, the Mexican did not hold back on his words and said:
"What the f*** is he doing, man? What the f***? Is he crazy, or what? F****** idiot."
Sainz too was left perplexed by the incident and asked his team what happened after the contact.
"What happened there? What happened? I don’t get it…" said Sainz.
The incident was taken up by the race stewards and would be investigated post-race. It was a strong weekend for the Mexican driver as for the first time this season, he looked like a contender for a race win. Perez out-qualified his teammate and three-time world champion Max Verstappen for the first time in 16 months and started the race at P4 compared to the Dutch driver's P6.
After making a strong start and taking P3 from Carlos Sainz at the start, the 34-year-old hung around the lead group and was involved in the battle on multiple occasions. With a costly crash, Sergio Perez lost his P7 in the Driver's Championship to George Russell with both drivers tied on points but the Mercedes driver leads due to his race win in Austria.
