Sergio Perez crashed during the qualifying session of the 2024 F1 Hungarian Grand Prix. This is the second consecutive race weekend where did not make it out of Q1 because of a crash.
As Perez's questionable time in Red Bull continues, he faced yet another obstruction during the qualifying session on the Hungaroring. The track was visibly wet and Perez was seen pushing as he was P9 on the timesheet and other drivers were improving their laptimes. After the turn 6 and 7 chicane, he seemingly put a lot of stress on his car that oversteered him into the wall on turn 8. The rear wing was visibly damaged along with a lot of work on the body and chassis.
Here is the complete video of the crash:
This is Sergio Perez's second consecutive disappointing result from a qualifying session. Earlier in Silverstone, he beached his car during Q1 which affected his race. The similar is seemingly also the case in Hungary.
F1 fans call out Sergio Perez’s embarrassing form after yet another crash in the Hungarian GP qualifying
Fans on social media shared quite a bit of sarcastic reactions on social media reacting to Sergio Perez's crash. His string of disappointing performances coming after his two-year extension with Red Bull has been a debatable topic.
One fan even assessed this to be his last race with the Milton Keynes-based team.
"This has to be his last race, embarrassing."
"And hopefully out of Red Bull soon 🙏," wrote another fan.
A user also reckoned that the team will not be able to bring future upgrades because of the cost cap since Perez's crashes will bring the team a financial load. He had a major crash in Monaco, followed by Canada. Adding to the list was Hungary.
"Another driver broken by Max Verstappen," claimed a fan.
"Horner looks furious lol," a user observed the RBR team principal.
Red Bull has been leading the Construtctors' Championship since the start of the season. However, the RB20 is seemingly not the fastest car on the grid anymore. This puts a lot of pressure on both drivers through the season to maintain the lead of the championship. Although Max Verstappen has been able to win races and keep his lead of the Drivers' title, Perez's performances might bring the team on the verge of losing the other title.
Moreover, it has been speculated that Red Bull might consider canceling Sergio Perez's two-year extension. Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson have been the speculated swaps for him so far.
