Red Bull team boss Christian Horner had a hilarious exchange with Max Verstappen while celebrating the latter's win at the 2024 F1 Brazilian GP.
The Dutchman had a rollercoaster of a race weekend at Interlagos. He first had a poor qualifying session since he only managed to secure P12. This was because of a late red flag in Q2 when Lance Stroll lost control of his car. Before the race weekend began, it was already confirmed that Verstappen would receive a five-place grid penalty for getting a new power unit element. This resulted in him starting the race from P17.
In the Brazilian GP, however, he turned his fortunes and plowed through the grid, overtaking most cars in the early stages of the race. He also got lucky with a red flag, before which he did not pit and secured a decent position to win the race.
After returning to the pits, Max Verstappen celebrated with his team and his partner Kelly Piquet. When he was hugging his girlfriend, Christian Horner was right behind her. The team principal hilariously said that he was not going to kiss the three-time world champion for his win.
Horner, Verstappen, and the rest of the team laughed at the joke. The Red Bull honcho then praised the Dutchman for his exceptional drive in wet conditions.
"I'm not gonna kiss you!" Horner said.
"Haha, unbelievable" Verstappen laughed.
"You are amazing, you were in a class of your own," Red Bull team boss praised.
Later on, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko also arrived and congratulated Verstappen for the win. The three talked about how they thought they were aiming for a podium finish.
Christian Horner showered praises on Max Verstappen after the latter won the Brazilian GP
Christian Horner recently talked about how Max Verstappen was invaluable and praised him for his excellent drive at Interlagos. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said that even though there are several great drivers out there on the current grid, Verstappen is among one of the greats of the sport.
He also appreciated Verstappen's effort to get as many points as possible, even though Red Bull did not have the fastest car on the grid.
"Max is invaluable. It's impossible to put a number on that. That was a champion's drive. There's some great drivers out there, as we know, but to stand out and shine like that today, that marks him out, I think, with some of the greats now," Horner said.
"The way he's driven, and even when we've had a difficult car this year, he's never given up. He's gone about collecting the points, he's always trying to get maximum out of the car," he added.
As of now, Max Verstappen leads the drivers' championship table with 393 points. Meanwhile, McLaren's Lando Norris is in second place with 331 points.
