Red Bull driver Sergio Perez was left raging after his wheel-to-wheel battle with Visa Cash App RB driver Liam Lawson turned ugly during the Mexican Grand Prix on Sunday. Despite carrying a 5-second penalty for a jump start, the Mexican driver made excellent progress in the first few laps of the race and found himself on the fringes of points after starting from P18.

But Perez seemed to take uncharacteristically long to get past Liam Lawson in the sister team VCARB on track, given car differences. The Kiwi driver did not make it easy for the 35-year-old to pass him as he retaliated going into Turn 5 which caused damage to the sidepod and the floor of the Red Bull driver.

Sergio Perez was fuming after the contact with Liam Lawson and voiced his feelings about the contentious wheel-to-wheel battle through the team radio, saying:

"What the f**k is this idiot doing? Is he okay?" Perez remarked.

The damage to his RB20 derailed Sergio Perez's chances of getting points in his home race after starting from the back rows of the grid, while Lawon also missed out on the points, finishing P16, a place higher than the Mexican.

Sergio Perez gives his reaction to his battle with Liam Lawson

Red Bull driver Sergio Perez did not hold back on his comments regarding Liam Lawson's attitude on track and said that the 21-year-old needed to be more humble when battling against veterans like him and Fernando Alonso.

As quoted by The Race, Sergio Perez said:

“He was outside the track and just came in straight like there was no car. I think he could have avoided the incident. Luckily I saw him and I opened the room, otherwise, it would have been a massive crash. There was no need. It damaged both of our races. I think it was just a little bit too much. He did the same with Fernando, with Franco at the end. And there are no penalties.”

He continued:

“The way he has come into Formula 1, I don't think he has the right attitude for it. He needs to be a bit more humble. When a two-time world champion was saying things last weekend, he completely ignored him," he added.

While Perez acknowledged that coming into F1, every driver tends to be 'hungry' for results, he said that the Kiwi was a great driver who needed to have the 'right attitude' on and off the grid and learn from such incidents.

This was the first time since joining Red Bull that Sergio Perez failed to finish in the points on Sunday at his home race in Mexico.
