McLaren driver Lando Norris took the third pole position of his F1 career and second this year at the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday. The British driver was cut above the rest and got the pole ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen without even completing his final run in the Q3 session.

It was a chaotic hour of qualifying at the Hungaroring as there were two red flags in the sessions caused by Sergio Perez and Yuki Tsunoda's respective crashes in the Q1 and Q3 sessions.

But Lando Norris remained undeterred by the stop-start nature of the session which also saw a hint of rain to put his MCL38 at the front of the grid. Below is the starting grid for the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday:

#1 Lando Norris (McLaren)

#2 Oscar Piastri (McLaren)

#3 Max Verstappen (Red Bull)

#4 Carlos Sainz (Ferrari)

#5 Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)

#6 Charles Leclerc (Ferrari)

#7 Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin)

#16 Sergio Perez (Red Bull)

Lando Norris previews his chances for a race win at the Hungarian Grand Prix

McLaren driver Lando Norris stated that he was as confident as he could ever be starting from P1 for the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday.

In his post-qualifying press conference, the 24-year-old said:

"As confident, I think, as we have been for a while, like both quali and races, we've been strong. I think our bad one is still, you know, it's been third or fourth, but our good ones have been chances to win."
"So definitely, once again, a good opportunity for that, for both of us and for us as a team to score some big points. And that's our target tomorrow," he added.

He also chimed in with how he and Oscar Piastri would battle each other in Turn 1 as they are starting alongside each other, adding:

"Honestly, it's something we'll talk about, and the same as we've always done. We've always kept it clean. I think we've treated each other well and given each other respect, helped each other when we needed to. So, yeah, no worries on our part."

Norris would have to defend his position not just from the Australian, but also from Verstappen, who looks to secure a third successive win at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Brit has had promising opportunities in the last four races but was unable to convert them into wins.
