Aston Martin CEO Lawrence Stroll recently talked about hiring Red Bull aero wizard Adrian Newey. The British team has announced the arrival of the car designer to their team in 2025.
In a live stream on Aston Martin's official YouTube channel, the team officially made public that they have hired Adrian Newey. At the start of the live stream, F1 presenter Laura Winter welcomed Lawrence Stroll to the stage and talked to him about how he and his team attracted the famous car designer.
Stroll explained his team's vision for the future and how Newey was aligned with it. He said that he had been in contact with Newey for several years and believed that if he was meant to end up in Aston Martin, he eventually would. He said:
"I've been trying to speak to Adrian for a couple of years, and I believe when things are meant to be, they happen. I will let Adrian speak for himself. I believe he share my passion, intent, and vision. There really is no other Formula 1 team that is poised for the future as we are. So, can't be more excited to have Adrian on," Stroll said.
Ever since Red Bull announced that Newey would part ways with them after 19 successful years, rumors emerged regarding his next destination. Team names like Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, and Aston Martin were thrown around. However, Aston Martin was the only team consistently present in most speculations.
A few days before the official announcement, many reports confirmed that Newey would join the Silverstone-based team.
After announcing Newey as the team's new technical managing head, Stroll revealed that the car designer will be a shareholder in the team as well.
Lawrence Stroll on Adrian Newey's day-to-day operations inside Aston Martin
Lawrence Stroll explained how Adrian Newey would contribute to the team on a day-to-day basis. In Red Bull, Newey was responsible for observing the car's performance and data and working on future updates to have an edge over rivals. He headed the chassis development team and created some of the most dominant cars in the sport.
According to Stroll, he would be heading the team as a senior technical manager on a daily basis. Aston Martin's CEO also touched on how Newey has already worked with some engineers in previous teams.
"We have a strong team, some of which Adrian has already worked with. Adrian will be the technical managing partner of that team. On a day to day basis he will be here, full-time committed to F1, giving leadership and direction to his team," Stroll said.
Adrian Newey has dedicated his whole life to F1, working for some of the best teams in the sport, including Red Bull, McLaren, and Williams. His cars have done extremely well on the racetrack, winning 12 constructors' titles and 13 drivers' titles. His next chapter with Aston Martin will begin in 2025. Newey will also work for the 2026 F1 car that will run on new technical regulations and power units.
